15 months: show self recognition
18-24 months: can look at pics and refer to people with names
5-7 years: mention emotions, social groups, comparisons
Adolescence: attitudes, personality traits, religious/ political beliefs, find themselves
Aspects of adolescence egocentrism:
-egocentrism
-imaginary audience (think everyone watching them)
-personal fable (who I am and who I want to be)
-illusion of vulnerability
Adolescent egocentrism how they feel
-teens are hyper aware & easily embarrassed
-they don’t realize the way they speak to their parents is rude
-they’re self absorbed and their whole life is revolves around themselves and what they’re gg thru

Being apart of 2 cultures and being able to understand and navigate both

self esteem is increased when:
-skilled in areas that matter to them
-nurturing parents are involved
When self esteem is decreased:
-problems with peers
-psychological disorders
-bullying
-aggressive behaviour
-poor in school
-depression in long run
How children describe themselves based on age:
Preschool:
-possessions
-physical characteristics
“I like trucks” “I’m a boy”
School-age:
-emotions
-social groups
-comparison
“I’m the best goalie in my class”
Adolescence:
-attitude
-personality traits
-future oriented
“I’m shy and quiet t school”

-diffusion: I don’t think of who i am, I just go along
-foreclosure: I’m gg to be a dr bc my rents want me to be one
-moratorium: wait, maybe I don’t actually want to be a dr
-achievement: actually I want to be a teacher and I’m motivated
Perspective-taking
Undifferentiated (3-6): they know people think diff but it still comes back to “this is how I feel” so they’re gonna feel it too
Social information (4-9): perspectives differ
Ex: I play bball with someone so kk they’re food
Self-reflective (7-12): can step into someone else’s shoes
Third person (10-15): can see how themselves and others are viewed
Societal (14-): someone may see me in a certain way bc ur experience is diff
