- children with positive temperaments are less affected by life stressors
Attachment styles
Avoidant
-baby doesn’t get upset when mom leaves
- baby doesn’t rely on parents
- when you become an adult you will have a hard time trusting and relying on them as well
Disorganized
-confused when parent leaves, confused on return
- doesn’t fall in a category
- unpredictable
- usually abused people
Anxious
- upset when rent leaves, angry and inconsolable on return
- “you’re gonna cheat on me” “you’re gonna find someone better”
Secure
- may be upset when parent leaves but stops crying on return
- best types
The strange situation experiment
- baby is put thru a series of situations
- parent is a present then absent
- stranger absent then present
- baby reaction = quality of attachment
