Photosynthesis

-absorb blue and green

Resonance Energy Transfer

Fixation Phase
-first step
-CO2 reacts with ribulose bisphosphate(RuBP) producing a 3 Carbon organic acid (3PGA)
-RuBP+3CO2->6 3PGA
Reduction Phase
-second step
-3PGA is reduced to a phosphorylated sugar glyceraldehyde-3-phosphate G3P (glucose building block)
-6 3PGA+6 ATP+6 NADPH=5 G3P(to step 3) and 1 G3P yield
Regeneration Phase
-third step
-G3P keeps cycle going to regenerate rubisco
5 G3P+3 ATP->3 RuBP
Stomata
-pores that open and close that allow CO2 to enter and exit
-trade off is temperature so they don’t lose too much water
-form of CO2 regulation
-hot & dry days result in closing
Photon
-tiny particle or bundle of electromagnetic radiation
Electron Transport Chain
-cytochromes and quinones pass electrons down electron transport chain
Sugars
-store a lot of potential energy
-plants use sugars for cellular respiration and to build all of the organic molecules in leaves and other structures
Rubisco
-enzyme that fixes CO2 gas plus RuBP into 3PGA
-very inefficient
-oxygen can compete for active site, slowing down efficiency
-activated by molecules that are produced in the presence of light, but inhibited when CO2 concentrations are low
