Services provided by the govt for everyone and cant be denied to anyone

Institutions that make authoritative decisions for any given society
Politics
Determines whom we select as our governmental leaders and what policies these leaders pursue
Political participation
Ways in which people get involved in politics
Single issue groups
Groups so concerned with one issue that members cast their votes on the basis of tht issue only ignoring a politician’s stand on everything else
Policymaking system
Reveals the way our govt responds to the priorities of its people. Process by which policy comes into being and evolves over time
Linkage institutions
Channels which ppl’s concerns become political issues on the policy agenda(incl elections,pol parties,interest groups & the media)
Policy agenda
Issues that attract serious attention of public officials and other people actively involved in politics at any given time
Political issue
Issue that arises when ppl disagree about a problem and how to fix it
Policymaking institutions
Branches of govt charged w/taking action on pol issues. uS constitution est 3 of them-congress,the presidency,& the courts
Public policy
Choice that the govt makes in rssponse to pol issue
Policy impacts
Effects a policy has on ppl and society’s problems
Democracy
System of selecting policymakers and organizing govt so that policy represents and respond’s to public’s preferences
Majority rule
In choosing among alternatives, the will of over half the voters should be followed
Minority rights
Guarantees rights to those who dont belong to majorities
