Manager is team leader and is responsible for defining the goals, methods, and functioning of the team
Team only responsible for actual execution

Manager/Leader determines overall purpose of the team
Team is at liberty to manage the methods by which to achieve that goal
Self directing teams
Management has responsibility only for the team’s organizational context
Teams determine own objectives and methods by which to achieve them
Self governing teams
Responsible for executing task, managing own performance processes, designing group, and designing the organizational context

Diffusion of responsibility and conformity to the leader
