Genomics?
The study of an organism’s genes; has provided new tools for classifying microorganisms
Recombinant DNA?
DNA made from 2 different sources
Microorganisms can be divided into what categories?
- bacteria (true bacteria)
- archaea
- eukarya (eukaryotes)
When naming/ classifying a microorganisms, each organism has to names. What are they?
The genus (capitalized) and the specific epithet (lowercase)
Koch’s Postulates (4)?
- The same pathogen must be present in every case of the disease
- The pathogen must be isolated from the diseased host and grown in pure culture
- The pathogen from the pure culture must cause the disease when it is inoculated into a health, susceptible laboratory animal
- The pathogen must be isolated from the inoculated animal and must be shown to be the original organism
