Ch 1 - Scienific Method Flashcards
Cause and Effect
The idea that one thing is the result of another thing
5 steps of scientific method
- Make observations
- Make a hypothesis
- Prediction
- Experiment
- Draw conclusions
Experimental Group
The group treated with the independent variable
Control Group
The group is not treated with independent variable
Independent Variable
Treatment or condition under study (requires change)
Dependent Variable
Event or condition that is measured or observed when the results are gathered (cannot be controlled)
Controlled Variables
All other factors that are attempted to keep the same for all groups under study
Theory
When experiments and observations consistently support an important hypothesis
Principle
A theory that stands the test of time
Bioassay
Establishes the quantity of a substance that results in a defined effective dose (ED)
