Ch 1 Flashcards
Proprioception
Cumulative sensory input to the central nervous system from all mechanoreceptors that sense body position and limb movement
Deconditioned
State of loss of physical fitness; may include muscle imbalances, decreases flexibility, and lack of core and joint stability
Proprioceptively enriched environment
Unstable (yet controllable) physical situation in which exercises are performed that causes the body to use its internal balance and stabilization
Prime mover
Muscle that acts as initial and main source of motive power
Obesity
Condition of being considerably overweight and having a BMI of 30 or greater
Superset
Set of two exercises performed back to back without any rest time in between
Rate of force production
Ability of muscles to exert maximal amount of force output in minimal amount of time
Muscular endurance
Muscles ability to contract for an extended period of time
Neuromuscular efficiency
Ability of the neuromuscular system to enable all muscles to work together efficiently in all planes of motion
Overweight
Person with a BMI of 25 to 29.9
Muscle Imbalance
Alteration of muscle length surrounding joint
