Cervical Spine SD Flashcards
Where do nerves go in the cervical region?
above the vertebra.
so 8 in the cervical region
what’s to know about the Atlas?
no vertebral body
rotates around the dens
no spinous process
what’s to know about C2?
has the odontoid process
has a spinous process now
C3 through C7 what do call the things we palpate
lateral mass or articular pillar
Radiologic exam for the C spine:
Lateral View lines?
Anterior vertebral line
Posterior vertebral line
spinal laminar line
posterior spinous process
back to front would be spinous process, laminar, posterior, anterior
Hangman’s fracture?
anterior displacement of the body of C2… fracture of the dens
Open mouth radiograph?
you can see C1 to C2. see it lining up.. could be a burst fracture
45 degree views?
view the intervertebral foramina
What are the atypical articulations? typical articulations?
OA, AA
C2-7
OA major and minor motions?
what do we call it?
Flexion and Extension
minor = side bending / rotation
“type 1 like”
AA major and minor?
rotation pretty much only.
C2-C7.. how do rotation and side bending occur?
what do we call it?
due to the uncinate process
Type-2 like.. side bending and rotation in the same direction.
what plane does the side bending happen in? translation?
coronal
coronal
what plane does articulating the pillars anterior to posterior happen in?
transverse
What are the indications and contraindications of Soft tissue?
Cervical SD and significant soft tissue component
fractures, open wounds, infections, DVT, coagulopathy, neoplasm
