Cervical HVLA Flashcards
Wallenberg test
They supine, have them move head off table while you support it, ask them to report any dizziness and you look for nystagmus, extend sidebend and rotate in same direction for 5 seconds, repeat other side.
OA
Grab head with fingers over occipital articulations. Head in neutral, do a sidebending or a rotation, then recheck in flexion and extension, the sidebending and rotation are opposite.
AA exam
Grab head with fingers on lateral mass of atlass, fully flex cspine, rotate to see which side rotation has greater range of motion
C2-C7
Check a segments rotation or sidebending and recheck in flexion and extension
Cspine contralateral traction
One hand pulling up on neck muscles, other pushing down on forehead
Head cspine suboccipital release
Finger pads in suboccipital region, eather do needing or do inhibitory pressure for 30 seconds
Cspine bilateral forrearm fulcrum forward bending
Arms crossed grabbing shoulders, push head up
Cspine unilateral forearm fulcrum foreward bending
One hand cradle head, other use as fulcrum diagonally, push up
AA HVLA
Do this standing up. head cradled in hands with fingers on lateral mass of atlas, flex cspine slightly, rotate into restrictive barrier, hvla thrust with body
OA HVLA: OA Flexed, sidebent left, rotated right
Contact posterior occiput, with index finger with rest of fingers underneath, engage restrictive barrier (extend slightly), thrust with body
C2-7 Rotation emphasis
For problems with a bigger rotation than sidebending problem. Thumbs on face fingers wrapping around so spinous process on affected vertebrae, o, flex until that level, sidebend TOWARDS THE FREEDOM, rotate to restrictive barrier,
Rays of sun
Upper cervicals thrust slightly upward tilt, lower cervicals slightly lower tilt.
C2-7 Sidebending emphasis
Thumb on face, fingers going down to spinous process, put into restrictive barrier except ROTATE TOWARDS THE FREEDOM, delivering a sidebending thrust with your hand into the neck
