Cerebellar Disorders Flashcards
What is the cerebellum?
CNS structure developed from rhombencephalon (hindbrain)
Located on the posterior cranial fossa
Behind the pons, below the tentorium cerebelli
Has 3 main structures
Anterior lobe for maintaining gait
Posterior lobe for maintaining postural tone and planning motor activity, fine movements
Flocculonodular lobe for maintaining balance
Has 4 nuclei ( dentate, globose, fastigial, emboliform)
1 efferent pathway
What are the cerebellar peduncles?
Connects the cerebellum to the brainstem
Superior- AE (anterior spinocerebellar)
Middle- A
Inferior- AE (posterior spinocerebellar)
What are the symptoms of cerebellar disease?

Vermis - coordination + fine mov
Flocculonodular lobe - balance and eye motion
