Cellular Respiration Flashcards
U3L2
1
Q
What is cellular respiration?
A
Cellular respiration (requires oxygen) is when chemical energy is used from glucose to create ATP.
1 glucose can output 36 ATP
2
Q
What are the four main stages of cellular respiration?
A
Glycolysis (Anaerobic)
Transition reaction
Krebs Cycle
ETC (electron transport chain)
3
Q
What is fermentation?
A
When there is no oxygen present, cells metabolize pyruvate (derived from glucose).
This process is called fermentation.
4
Q
What’s the general formula to cellular respiration?
A
C6H12O6 (glucose) + 6O2 –> 6CO2 + 6H2O + 36ATP
