In a microscope what that the eyepiece do
The eyepiece is the lens that is nearest to the eye.It usually has the magnification marked on it.For example, if the eyepiece is marked x10 this means it magnifies an object 10 times
What does the focus knobs do
The focus knobs allow an image of the object to be seen clearly
- The coarse focus knob brings the object roughly into focus
- The fine focus knob [which may not be present on all microscopes] allows for precise focusing
What does the stage do
To view an object under an microscope it must be put on a glass slide.The slide is placed on the centre of the stage and held in place by clips
What does the mirror do
The mirror is used to reflect light up through an object. Normally a lamp shines onto the mirror.The angle of the mirror can be altered to see the object more clearly.Some microscopes have a light bulb instead of a mirror
