Q

why are cells so small

A

cells use their surface to exchange nutrients and wastes. to take in sufficient nutrients and gasses, being small gives them a large surface area to volume ratio. allowing it to exchange what it needs with its environment to survive

Q

what is a prokaryotic cell

A

Evolved 3.8 billion years ago.
Bacteria is the main type of this cell.
They are always singular celled.
Have no nucleus or other membrane bound organelles.
They have a cell wall.
They have one large circular piece of dna, some have smaller pieces called plasmids.
Smaller than the eukaryotic cell.

Q

What is a eukaryotic cell

A

Evolved around 2.7 billion years ago.
Most cells other then bacteria.
They can be single celled or multi celled.
They have a nucleus and other membrane bound organelles.
They have linear pieces of dna

Q

what are some things about plant cells

A

They have a cell wall (cellulose) that give the cell shape.
Some plants contain chloroplast to enable photosynthesis to occur, most have a large vacuole.
