Cells Flashcards
What is in animal cells
Cytoplasm, Nucleus, Mitochondria and Cell Membrane
What is in plant cells
Cytoplasm, Nucleus, Mitochondria , Cell Membrane, Cell wall, Chloroplasts and Large Vacuole
What is in bacteria cells
Cytoplasm, Cell Membrane, Cell wall, Circular Chromosome, Non-cellulose cell wall , Capsule and Plasmid
What is the function of the nucleus
Controls the cell, contains chromosomes which carry your genes. Genes control all your characteristics
What is the function of the nuclear membrane
Surrounds the nucleus and contains pores to allow substances to move between the nucleus and the cytoplasm
What is the function of the cell membrane
Controls what enters and leaves the cell. It is semi permeable.
What is the function of the cytoplasm
Jelly like substance (consists mainly of water and dissolved substances, where most chemical reactions occur.
What is the function of the mitochondria
This is the site of cell respiration
What is the function of the cell wall
Tough outer layer made of cellulose. It is rigid and keeps the cell in shape. It is fully permeable and helps support the cell.
What is the function of the large permanent vacuole
Stores water, sugar and minerals i.e. cell sap
What is the Non-cellulose cell wall made from
Made from carbohydrate and protein
What is the function of the chloroplasts
Contain the green pigment chlorophyll, which traps light for photosynthesis.
What is the function of no nucleus
The nuclear material (chromosome, a loop of DNA) is found in the cytoplasm and not within a nucleus
What is the function of the plasmid
An additional loop of DNA (useful in genetic engineering)
