cells Flashcards
How does an optical microscope work?
Visible light passes through and is bent through the lens system enabling user to see the specimen
What cells are visible through an optical miscrscope?
Alive cells
Transparent with special stains
Uses of light microscope?
Max resolution is 0.2 micrometres
Nucleus and mitochondria can be seen
Maximum magnification is around x1500
How does an electron microscope work?
Beams of electrons instead of light
Allowing higher resolution and resolving power- more detail can be seen
uses of electron microscopes?
Maximum resolution of 0.0002
Maximum magnification is around 1500000
SEM and its uses?
Scanning electron microscope and is when a beam of electrons move back and forth reflecting off the specimens surface
Images are 3D and specimens don’t have to be thin.
TEM and its uses
Transmission electron microscope and uses electromagnets to produce an image
Thin specimens needed and can see the internal structures
