Cell Transport Flashcards
Cell Membrane (Plasma Membrane)
Selectively permeable- Allow somethings things to break through but not others
Contains 2 fatty acid chains that are nonpolar
Phospholipids
Hydrophilic Head (Polar) and Hydrophobic Tails (Non Polar)
Simple Diffusion
Goes from area of high concentration to low concentration
Passive transport
No energy
Add energy to speed up process
Diffusion of Liquids
Eventually food coloring will distribute into all parts of the water
Stirring mixture adds energy into solution.
Ex. Fart Gas diffuses across the room and even goes into low concentration areas such as the hallway
Aquaporins
Water channels Protein pores used during osmosis Channels that leaves you go in and out of the cell membrane Selectively Permeable Allows water to come through
Facilitated Diffusion
No energy
Uses transport proteins to go from high to low concentration
Channel Proteins
Are embedded in the cell membrane and have a pore for materials to cross
Carrier proteins
an change shape to move material from one side of the membrane to the other
They bond and drag molecules through the lipid bilayer and release them on the opposite side.
Active transport
Requires energy or ATp
Moves from low to high concentration
Against concentration gradient
Similar to how it takes more energy to move when people are moving toward you and you bump into them
Isotonic Solutions
90 H2O 10% NaCl outside the cell
10 NaCL 90% Water inside the cell
No Net Movement
At equilibrium
Hypotonic Solution
80% H20 20% NaCL inside cell
10% NaCL 90% H2O water outside the cell
Expands the cell when water goes in
Hypertonic
15% NaCl 85% H2O outside cell
5% NaCl 95% H2O inside the cell
Water moves out cell
When kidney is off cell are being = destroyed
Exocytosis
Moving things out
Vesicles fuse with the plasma membrane
Vesicles come from Golgi body
Pinocytosis
the ingestion of liquid into a cell by the budding of small vesicles from the cell membrane.
Receptor mediated Endocytosis
Some integral proteins have receptors on their surface to recognize and take in hormones and cholesterol etc.
Join to together and bring all things in at a time
Ex. To bring all the bird in you would need a bird feeder.
