Cell Structure Flashcards
What is found in a plant cell ?
- Cell wall
- Cell membrane
- Cytoplasm
- Mitochondria
- Vacuole
- Chloroplasts
- Nucleus
- Ribosomes
What is the function of the nucleus?
Contains the genes which are carried in the chromosomes
Controls the cell
What is the function of the cell membrane?
- Controls the movement of substances in and out of the cell.
- Holds the cell together.
What is the function of mitochondria?
This is where the cell carries out respiration.
Respiration releases energy that the cell needs to work.
What is the function of cytoplasm?
Where most of the chemical reactions happen.
Made up of a gel like substance.
Contains enxymes that control the chemical reactions.
What is the function of the vacuole?
- Stores the plant cells extra energy in the form of cell sap
- It is a weak solution of sugar and salts
What is the function of chloroplasts?
Chloroplasts contain a green pigment chlorophyll which absorbs light energy to use in photosynthesis
What is the function of the cell wall?
Extra support structure.
It is made out of cellulose
What is found in an animal cell ?

What is the equation for magnification?
magnification = image size/actual size
What do you know about nerve cells?
also known as neurons
carry information as electrical signals
3 types - sensory, relay, motor
