cell structure Flashcards
what organelles can be found inside an animal cell? (5)
nucleus, cell membrane, cytoplasm, mitochondria, ribosomes
what organelles can be found inside a plant cell? (8)
nucleus, cell membrane, cytoplasm, cell wall, mitochondria, ribosome, chloroplasts, vacuole
what organelles can be found inside a fungal cell? (7)
nucleus, cell membrane, cytoplasm, cell wall, mitochondria, ribosomes, vacuole
what organelles can be found inside a bacterial cell? (6)
cell membrane, cytoplasm, cell wall, ribosomes, plasmids, circular chromosome
why do some cells require a greater number of mitochondria?
the higher the energy requirement of the cell the greater the number of mitochondria present for aerobic respiration
what are examples of cells which require greater numbers of mitochondria?
- muscle cells need lots of mitochondria to produce energy for muscle contraction
- sperm cells need lots of mitochondria to produce energy for movement
what is the plant cell wall made of?
cellulose
what cells contain chloroplasts?
only green plant cells
what organelle do bacterial cells lack?
a nucleus
what do all four types of cell have in common?
- ribosomes
- cell membrane
- cytoplasm
what is the function of the cell membrane?
controls movement of substances into and out of cell
what is the function of the cytoplasm?
where all chemical reactions occur
what is the function of the ribosome?
where protein synthesis occurs
what is the function of the mitochondria?
where aerobic respiration occurs
what is the function of the nucleus?
controls all cell activities
