cell specialisation Flashcards
what is a specialised cell:
a cell with a specific adaptation to perform a particular function
specialised animal cells:
red and white blood cells-carries 02 and defeats viruses
nerve and sperm cells and egg cell, ciliate and villi cells
specialised plant cells:
xylem and phloem cells, root hair cells and leaf cells
sperm cell:
has a long tail and swims to the egg cell
muscle cells:
have lots of mitochondria to help carry out cellular respiration.
tissue
bunch of similar cells
plant tansport:
unicellular organisms
use diffusion to get oxygen
larger eg trees uses a large network of veins to run through roots
2 main vascular tissues used for transportation:
xylem and phloem
xylem:
transports water and dissolved minerals
one way flow of sap/system
no end walls
made of dead cells
clear and hollow tube
thick cell wall-lignin-strong and gives support
phloem:
sugar and amino acids- for growth travels to leaves and sugar takem to roots stored as starch
thin cell wall made of cellulose
2 way flow of sap/system
end wall and preferations-holes
made of living cells
