cell process Flashcards
what are the 4 chemical compounds in cells?
protien
lipids
carbohydrates
nucleic acids
what is the job of protien in a cell?
protein is a large molecule that does most of the work in a cell and form part of the cell membrane.
what is the job of lipids in a cell?
cells store energy in lipids for later use. lipids have more energy than carbohydrates.
what is the job off carbohydrates in a cell?
they’re energy rich compounds. they’re found in the cell membrane.
what is the job of nucleic acids in the cell?
molecules that contain the instructions the the cell needs to carry out the basic functions of life.
what are the 2 types of DNA?
DNA & RNA
Define the process of deffusion.
the process where molecules sread out in areas where there are many of them to areas to where there are fewer of them.
how does Deffusion relate to cells?
the main way molecules move in and out of cells if deffusion.
Define the process of Osmosis.
if the concentration of water is higher outside the cell than inside, the water moves outside the cell.
explain how the egg lab represented Osmosis.
the concentration of each liquid got higher outside the egg than the concentration of the liquid inside the egg so the water slowly started to move outside the egg.
define the process of photosynthesis.
the process where cells capture energy from the sunlight and use it to make food.
what are the raw materials needed to start the process of photosynthesis?
glucose and oxygen
what NEW products are made from photosynthesis?
oxygen and sugar
why are plants green?
the green color comes from PIGMENT. pigment is colored chemical compounds that absorb light. the main pigment is CHLOROPYLL.
Define the process of Cellular Respiration.
The process where cells break down simple food molecules like glucose and release energy that they contain.
