Cell Parts and Uses Flashcards
Nucleus
Contains DNA and is used to control the cell’s activity.
Cytoplasm
A liquid gel where the organelles are suspended and where chemical reactions take place.
Cell Membrane
Used to control the movement of substances. Glucose and minerals in, and urea and hormones out.
Mitochondria
Where energy is transferred during aerobic respiration.
Ribosomes
Where protein synthesis takes place.
Chloroplasts (P)
Contain chlorophyll, used for photosynthesis. They absorb light.
Cell Wall of Cellulose (P)
To provide support for the plant.
Permanent Vacuole (P)
Contains cell sap, which keeps the cell rigid and helps support the plant
DNA in bacteria cells (prokaryotic)
Genetic material found as a long circle of DNA, suspended in the cytoplasm.
Plasmids (B)
Small circular rings of DNA.
Slime capsule (B)
Acts as a layer of protection for the cell.
Flagella (B)
Used for movement of some bacteria cells.
