Cell Mediated Response Flashcards
What cells does the cell mediated response involve
T cells
Where are the cells for cell mediated response made and where are they matured
Made in the bone marrow
Mature in the thymus
What is an ‘ APC ‘
Any cell presenting a non-self cell antigen on its surface
List examples of ‘ APC’s ‘
Macrophage with pathogen antigen on surface
Viral antigens on cell
Cells from a transplanted organ
Cancer/Tumour cells
Why is it called a ‘ Cell Mediated response ‘
T cells only respond to antigens on the surface of cells, doesn’t respond to antigens detached from cells
Describe the steps in the ‘ Cell mediated response ‘
- APC present
- Receptor cells on T helper cell bind to antigens on the APC
- Once binded, T helper cells stimulated
- Replication via mitosis
How do T helper cells replicate
By mitosis
What different cells can T helper cells differentiate into
T helper cells - stimulating B cells
Memory cells for antigen
Killer T cells
Macrophages stimulating phagocytosis
How do Cytotoxic T cells work
Release perforin
Making pores in cell
Allowing substances to enter and leave cell
Causing cell death
What do killer T cells release causing cell death
Perforin
