cell division - virus replication Flashcards
1st step ?
virus attaches to a cell using attatchment protiens
specific host cell to a specific receptor
HIV targets T - helper cell
2nd step ?
virus penetrates cell membrane and injects nucleic acid (dna / rna) into cell
HIV will release the capsid into T lymphocyte cell (containing viral rna and reverse transcriptase)
3rd step ?
viral nucleic acid repllicates using host cellular machinery
HIV, the viral genome is rna. this is converted into dna by the enzyme reverse transcriptase
4th step ?
new viral nucleic acid are packaged into viral particles and released from the cell. the host cell may be destroyed in the process
in HIV, the viral envelope is gained as the viral particle is released from the T - helper cell. these HIV viral particles matures in the blood.
