Q

2nd step of binary fission ?

A

the cell duplicates its chromosome, attatches the copy beside the original, and adds membrane and wall materials between them
plasmids are also copied at this point if present
double the amount of dna

Q

compare the processes of binary fission and mitosis ?

A

similarities: both involve a prior stage where dna is replicated and cells grow in size
both undergo cytokenesis
both involve the production of 2 genetically identical daughter cells

differences: mitosis involves spindle fibres and binary fission does not
mitosis has definite stages such as pmat and binary fission does not
mitosis = eukaryotic cells
binary fission = prokaryotic cells
