Cell Division Flashcards
Stages of Mitosis (ordered)
Prophase - Metaphase - Anaphase - Telophase (PMAT)
Prophase
The chromosomes condense becoming shorter and fatter and the nuclear envelope disintegrates
Metaphase
The chromosomes line up in the middle of the dividing cell
Anaphase
The sister chromatids are pulled apart to opposite sides of the cells with spindle fibre
Telophase
The chromosomes decondense and the nuclear membrane forms, as well as the cytoplasm separating
Interphase
A cell replicates it’s DNA, and grows in preparation for cell division.
Binary Fission
Asexual reproduction through separation of the body into two new bodies
Diploid
Presence of two complete chromosome sets
Haploid
Presence of 1 complete chromosome set
Chromatin
The material of which chromosomes are made of
Chromatid
One of two identical halves of a chromosome that have been duplicated
