Cell differentiation and stem cells Flashcards

What is cell potency?
It is the number of choices a cell has, the number for potential options it has in terms of how many cell types it can become.
What is pluripotent?
capable of giving rise to several different cell types.
What is multipotent?
Multipotent stem cells are cells that have the capacity to self-renew by dividing and to develop into multiple specialised cell types present in a specific tissue or organ. Most adult stem cells are multipotent stem cells.
What is uni potent?
capable of giving rise to only one cell type.
This is Blood differentiation (Haemopoises)
What makes cells different from one another?
Distinct functionsl role.
Different proteins(associated with function).
However, someproteins are in all cells such as histones.
what is a transcription factor?
a transcription factor is a protein that controls the rate of transcription of genetic information from DNA to messenger RNA, by binding to a specific DNA sequence.
What proteins are only specific to red blood ?
Alpha/Beta globins
Carbonic anhydrase
Spectrin
Anion transporter
What is the environmetal signal that causes a projection of red blood cells?
A low level or aility to carry oxygen, hence, a low leevel of oxygen would require more red blood cells to carry more oxygen around the body.
What is the process of EPO regulating red cell-specific genes?
