Cell Cycle and Mitosis Flashcards
1
Q
What three phases are in Interphase?
A
G1, S, G2
2
Q
What happens in these 3 phases (Interphase)
A
Growth, Dna is replicated/duplicated, Growth
3
Q
In interphase what normal functions is the cell doing?
A
It is doing its normal functions along with preparing to divide by creating a new nucleus (new organelles), replicating its DNA and growing larger
4
Q
What happens in early prophase?
A
- The chromatin condenses/coils into chromosomes
2. Nuclear membrane dissolves/dissappears
5
Q
What happens in late prophase?
A
- Sister chromatids pair up
- Centrioles move to the poles
- Spindle fibres attach to the centromeres
- Centromere holds sister chromatids together
6
Q
What happens in metaphase?
A
- ALL chromosomes line up along the middle/equator under direction of spindle fibre.
7
Q
What happens in anophase?
A
- Sister chromatids are separated
- Spindle fibres do the separating.
(cytokinesis begins)
8
Q
What happens in early telophase?
A
- Chromosomes reach the pole
2. Nuclear membrane reforms around chromosomes
9
Q
What happens in late telophase?
A
- Chromosomes uncoil back into chromatin
cytokinesis is completed
