A

• PTCC will provide:
○ Patient demographics/details/diagnosis
○ Sending/receiving Center
○ Physicians involved (sending/receiving/consulting)
• Various possibilities post phone call
○ Conference with physicians/facilities
○ Phone sending facility

§ Change plan (we can request - not give orders)
○ Start response

What is involved in the pre-trip check?

A

• Discussion with Partner/Pilots/Physicians (sending, receiving, transport)
○ Safety (4 to go, 1 to say no)
○ Weather (pilots for flight, CCP for environmental equipment)
• Logistics
○ Special resources/equipment (ie: Blakemore tube, additional pumps, enough medication, etc.)
○ Modes of transportation (ie: air, sea, ground, hovercraft)
○ Time Factors (ie: fatigue management, pilot time out, medication available)

A

• Identify access (ie: IV, central line, arterial line, etc)
○ Trace and label every line
○ Check chart for medication incompatibilities and chart/identify
○ Start additional access if required
○ ALWAYS have a free IV line for medication administration
• Identify equipment needs
○ Retrieve required equipment
○ Ensure adequate supplies for duration of transport (ie: blood administration sets)
• Coordinate patient movement & packaging with RN/staff
○ Watch for changes/trends in patient presentation
• Enact attending CCP’s treatment plan
○ Closed loop communication
○ Identify and communicate any perceived errors for clarification
○ Monitor patient
