CB6 / Flashcards
Photosynthesis word equation
Water + carbon dioxide ——> glucose + oxygen
How does water enter the plant?
Via osmosis in to root hair cells. Water moves from an area of higher water concentration, to lower water concentration through a partially permeable membrane.
How does carbon dioxide enter the plant?
Via diffusion through open stomata. Carbon dioxide moves from an area of higher concentration to lower concentration.
Photosynthesis
Photosynthesis occurs in chloroplasts which contain a green substance called chlorophyll which traps light energy. Photosynthesis is an endothermic reaction.
What controls the opening and closing of the stomata?
Guard cells
Translocation
