CB4 / Flashcards
1
Q
Natural selection
A
Variation can lead to a species evolving because some organisms can outcompete others as they are better adapted to the environment, and are therefore more likely to survive due to natural selection. This means they are more likely to reproduce and pass on their characteristics.
2
Q
VOSSAR
A
Variation Outcompete Selection pressure - what is giving them the advantage Survival Adaptation Reproduction
3
Q
5 kingdoms
A
- Animal
- Plant
- Fungi
- Prokaryotes
- Protoctists
4
Q
Animal
A
- Multicellular (lots of cells)
* Heterotrophic (consume food from other sources)
5
Q
Plant
A
- Multicellular (lots of cells)
- Autotrophic (make their own food)
- Cell wall
- Chlorophyll
6
Q
Fungi
A
- Multicellular (lots of cells)
- Saprophytic (feed on decaying materials)
- Cell wall
7
Q
Prokaryotes
A
• Unicellular (one cell)
8
Q
Protoctists
A
- Unicellular (one cell)
* Nucleus
9
Q
Why do we use the 3 domains rather than the 5 kingdoms?
A
Genetic analysis
10
Q
3 domains
A
- Bacteria
- Archaea
- Eukarya
11
Q
Bacteria
A
No nucleus with all genes used for something
12
Q
Archaea
A
No nucleus some unused DNA present
13
Q
Eukarya
A
Nucleus with some unused DNA present
