Chommoda dicebat, si quando commoda vellet dicere, et insidias Arrius hinsidias. et tum mirifice sperabat se esse locutum, cum quantum poterat dixerat hinsidias
Arrius was saying “Hadvantages” whenever he wished to say advantages and he would say “hambush” if ever he wished to say ambush. Then he was hoping that he had spoken amazingly when he had said “hambush” as much as he was able.
Credo, sic mater, sic liber avunculus eius, sic maternus avus dixerat atque avia. Hoc misso in Syriam requierant omnibus aures:
I believe, thus his mother, thus his free uncle, thus his maternal grandfather and grandmother had spoken. With this one having been sent into Syria, the ears of all had rested.
audibant eadem haec leniter et leviter, nec sibi postilla metuebant talia verba, cum subito affertur nuntius horribilis, Ionios fluctus, postquam illuc Arrius isset, iam non Ionios esse sed Hionios.
They were hearing the same things softly and lightly, afterwards they were not fearing such words for themselves when suddenly horrible news is brought that in the Ionian waves, after Arrius had gone there, no longer are Ionian but “Hionian”.
