Carter and Cassaday (1998) asked participants to learn lists of words and passages of prose when they had either been given anti-histamine drugs, or not given anti-histamine drugs. The participants were then asked to recall the information in either the same state or a different one. They found that performance on the memory test was better when participants learnt and recalled words in the same state.
