7
Q

What spans the carpal tunnel and what does it attach to?

A

The flexor retinaculum. Attaches to the scaphoid and the trapezium on one side, and to the hamate and triquetrum on the other side.

10
Q

what is the anatomical snuffbox?

A

the floor of the radial notch, important cuz it’s usually fractured. If treated inadequately it can lead to pseudoarthrosis and necrosis of a fragment. EDIT THIS !

11
Q

what’s the carpal tunnel syndrome?

A

it is caused by the disproportion of the carpal tunnel and it’s contents, causing the median nerve to be compressed, therefore leading to numbness, tingling and the weakness of the hand

12
Q

describe the scaphoid

A

largest bone in prox. row,
has a tubercle on it’s palmar surface,
has blood vessels on its distal end/face
most often fractured

16
Q

what does triquetrum articulate with?

A

base of triquetrum articulates with the lunate LATERALLY
PROXIMALLY: articular disk
DISTALLY: hamate
PALMAR SURFACE OF THE TRIQUETRUM: pisiform

17
Q

describe the pisiform

A

the smallest bone, round, is inserted as a sesamoid bone in the tendon if the flexor carpi ulnaris

18
Q

what does pisiform articulate with?

A

DORSAL SURFACE: triquetrum

19
Q

describe the features of the trapezium

A

tubercle (dorsally)

medially to the tubercle there is a groove for the tendon of flexor carpi RADIALIS

20
Q

articulate surfaces of the trapezium?

A

DISTALLY: saddle shaped like a.s., joints eith the first metacarpal bone
MEDIALLY: trapezoid
BETWEEN THE DISTAL AND MEDIAL A.FACETS: second metacarpal bone
PROXIMALLY: scaphoid

21
Q

trapezoid?

A
wider dorsally than palmary
articulates with:
PROXIMALLY: scaphoid
DISTALLY: 2nd metacarpal
LATERALLY: trapezium
MEDIALLY: capitate
22
Q

capitate, articulation and description

A
the largest carpal bone
PROXIMALLY: scaphoid and lunate
DISTALLY: mostly 3rd m.bone, but 2. and 4. m.bone as well
LATERALLY: trapezoid
MEDIALLY: hamate
23
Q

the hamate, important structures

A

palmary- HAMULUS ! (the hook of hamate)

important bcs of the flexor digiti minimi brevis, pisohamate ligament

24
Q

hamate articulation?

A

PROXIMALLY AND LATERALLY: lunate
PROXIMALLY AND MEDIALLY: triquetrum
DISTALLY: 4th and 5th m.c. bone
LATERALLY: capitate
