Cariovascular Disease Flashcards
Does infective endocarditis patient need to apply AB cover before dental procedure?Any other examples need to apply AB cover?
IE,Yes.
Rheumatic heart disease and Congenital heart disease also need to take ab cover before dental treatment.
What is congenital heart disease? What is the cause of it?
-anomalies of the heart tissue and major blood vessels in which develops during the first 9 weeks in utero
💠Cause:
-genernally unknown
-genetic reasons (eg done syndrome)
-environment:smoking,metabolic disorder,fatal hypoxia,endocarditis,drugs
pregnant woman who is infected rubella virus early, her infant may have congenital heart disease
What is the sign and symptoms of cvd?
-clubbing finger or toes
-weakness
-dyspnea
-fatigue
-heart murmur
-delayed growth development
What is the dental concern of CHD patients?
-ab cover
-development defects of teeth
-slightly hemorrhage to trauma
-may have decreased ability to fight oral infections
-dental caries due of xerostomia from medication
What is the medical treatment for CHD patients?
-Surgical correction treatment
-medication(anticoagulants)
-regular medical review
What is the definition of IE?
💠-a microbial infection to the endocardium and heart valves, the microbial colonization of the endothelium membrane which is the inner surface of the heart and heart valves
-need ab cover to prevent bacteremia, the bacterial may lodge in the heart valves causing myocardial infarction
What is the risk factors of ie?
-artificial heart valves
-damaged heart valves
-congenital heart defects
-history of endocarditis
-being immunosuppressed
-iv illegal drug use
What is the management as a DH when the patient have IE?
=>Remind patient:
-take the antibiotics prophylaxis before treatment
-maintain good oral hygiene
-regular dental check up
What is the Combination factors of IE predisposition to infection?
1.abnormal tissue in the heart
2.bacteremia
3.reduced host defenses
Sign and symptoms: heart murmur, weakness, fever, anemia, can result in death
What is rheumatic fever?
It is an acute immune-mediated conditions as a complication of group a streptococcal infection, arises when scarlet fever/strep throat. It produces the inflammation of connective tissue(heart, blood vessels, joints)
What disease will be happen if a person got the rheumatic fever when he/she was children? Plz define it.
Rheumatic heart disease, which is a systemic and immunologically mediated condition which the heart valves has been damaged permanently after one or more episodes of rheumatic fever.(usually occurs 10-20years after initial illness
What is the medical treatment of rheumatic heart disease?
-surgical valves repairmen or replacement
-medication:anticoagulants/ treat symptoms for rheumatic fever
What is the sign and syndrome of rheumatic heart disease?
-chest discomfort
-dyspnea
-heart palpitations
-fatigue
-dizziness
-edema
What is the dental concerns of rheumatic heart disease?
Consult the dentist whenever AB cover is needed before treatment
