What is a balanced diet?
Eating food from all the food groups in the correct quantities
What are carbohydrates?
They give us energy quickly
What are the two types of carbohydrates? Give an example of each.
- STARCHES. Cereals, rice, bread, potatoes
2. NATURAL SUGARS. Fruit, honey.
What are Proteins?
They are the building bocks of our bodies since they help make muscle and strong bones.
What do proteins do when we are sick or injured?
Help heal our bodies.
Give two examples of proteins.
Meat, eggs, dairy products, beans, lentils
What do fats and oils do?
They are stored in our bodies to release energy at a slower rate than proteins.
Keep our bodies warm.

What do vitamins and minerals do for our bodies?
Protect them from illness
What are the best food sources of vitamins and minerals?
Fruits and vegetables.
Which two minerals are important for strong bones and teeth?
Calcium and magnesium
Which mineral is important for brain development and healthy red blood cells?
Iron
Why is PE at school important?
- It gets you outside
- It helps you discover which sports you like
- It gives you skills
- It gives you a chance to play sports with your class mates and improve relationships with them
What are the benefits of exercise?
- It helps your brain to function better.
- It reduces stress.
- It limits your screen time.
- It helps you be healthy
- It helps you sleep better.

Why is sleep important?
It helps your body rest and recover.
What does the brain do when you are asleep?
- It sorts out information.
- It often solves problem.
- It produces chemicals needed by the body.
How much sleep do you need?
Approximately 10 hours per night, although this various for individuals
What happens if you don’t get enough sleep?
- You can’t think clearly.
- You may not grow as much as you should.
- You may get sick frequently since your immune system is affected.
How can you make sure you sleep properly?
- Go to bed at about the same time every day.
- Have a bedtime routine.
- Don’t have a TV in your bedroom.
- Don’t watch scary movies before going to bed.
- Don’t do strenuous exercise before going to bed.
- Limit the amount of carbohydrates and caffeine you ingest at night.
- Only use your bed for sleeping.
