What is the latent phase of labour?
-A period of time, not necessarily continuous, when there are painful contractions AND there is some cervical change. Effacement and dilatation up to 4cm.
What is the established first stage of labour?
-When there are regular painful contractions and there is progressive cervical dilatation from 4cm.
What is the passive second stage of labour?
-The finding of full dilatation of the cervix before or in the absence of involuntary expulsive contractions.
Active second stage of labour?
-Expulsive contractions with a finding of full dilatation of the cervix or other signs of full dilatation of the cervix. Active maternal effort following confirmation of full dilatation of the cervix in the absence of expulsive contractions.
What is the third stage of labour?
-From the birth of the baby to the delivery of the placenta and membranes.
During the 1st stage of labour when should you check:
- Blood pressure?
- Temp?
- Resps?
- Pulse?
- Contractions frequency, strength and length?
