cardiovasular system Flashcards
3 function of cardiovascular system
thermoregulation
immunity
transports gases and fuels
what is the cv system made up of
heart
blood vessels
blood
stage 1 of cardiac cycle ( 3 steps)
the atrias fill with blood
blood returns through vena cava into the right atrium
blood returns from lungs into the left atrium thorough pulmonary vein
heart rate
number of contractions of the heart muscle in a minute
220-age= MHR
stage 2 ( two steps)
pressure builds in atria making bicuppid and tricuppid valves open
the blood goes into ventricles
stage 3 ( 4 steps)
ventricles contract
blood moves into aorta to the rest of the body
or into the pulmonary artery and into lungs
Stroke volume
amount of blood ejected from the left ventricle of the heart each contraction
measured as L/min
when u reach 60% is plateus
cardiac output (q)
total amount of blood ejected by left ventricle of the heart each minute
HRXSV
3 functions of the blood
- transports gases and fuels
-thermoregulation - protect against dehydration
2 functions red blood cells
transports oxygen to muscles\
transports carbon dioxide away from muscles
white blood cells
fights infections and virus by absorbing
platelets
clots the blood ( my eye)
plasma
transports nutrients proteins and hormones
artery 3 functions
transport oxygen rich blood
connects to capillaries
exchanges gases and nutrients
capillary 3 functions
diffusion
precapillary sphincters ( hairties)
highways, like a valve when exercising open to skin close to organs
veins
low in oxygen
vasodilation
opening of arteries- skin and muscle in exercise
vasoconstriction
closing of arteries- major organs in exercise
blood pressure
pressure exerted by the blood in the arteries when the heart releases
2 types of blood pressure and what are they
diastolic- when the heart relaxes and fills with blood
systolic- blood pumped by hear ( thuds)
thermoregulation
balanced body temp
heat exhaustion
bloodflow to skin increases and to working muscle decreases
dehydration
blood plasma is reduced making blood thicker, by sweating to remove heat you loose plasma
2 hyperthermia causes
heat cramp, dizziness, loss of p[lasma
heat exhaustion
serious cramps, more fluid lost from sweating
heat stroke
higher tempthan 40°
to treat hyperthermia
remove clothes, sponge and cold water
hypothermia causes
heat not going to liver and heart
narrowed blood vessels
treatment for hypothermia
remove wet clothes
hot packs on armpit and neck
