Cardiovascular system Intro - Circulation Flashcards

To learn all the facts and scientific language in relation to the heart and the three types of circulation.

1
Q

What is the systemic circulation

A

Circulation from the heart throughout the body - the left side of the heart - requires a thicker-walled ventricle.

Q

The best place to put your hands when performing CPR? Why?

Q

The difference between an anatomical description and a functional description.

A

An anatomical description contains scientific language such as the atrium and ventricle. The language of the functional description will be less formal (left and right).

16
Q

Name the two atrioventricular valves

A

Bicuspid valve, tricuspid valve.

17
Q

Which side of the heart is the bicuspid valve on?

A

Left

18
Q

Which side of the heart is the tricuspid valve on?

A

Right

19
Q

Papillary muscles: function & location

A

They help to open and close the bicuspid and tricuspid valves by contracting and relaxing. Found on the inner lining of the heart (endocardium).

20
Q

Chordae tendineae structure, location, and function.

A

String-like tendons that are attached to the papillary muscle and the bicuspid and tricuspid valves, pulling them open when muscle contracts, and closing them when the muscle relaxes.

21
Q

The three layers of the heart

A

Pericardium, myocardium, endocardium.
