Cardiovascular system Intro - Circulation Flashcards
To learn all the facts and scientific language in relation to the heart and the three types of circulation.
What is the systemic circulation
Circulation from the heart throughout the body - the left side of the heart - requires a thicker-walled ventricle.
What is pulmonic circulation
Circulation from the heart to lungs and back (through pulmonary blood vessels)
The flow of deoxygenated blood
Vena cava - right atrium - tricuspid valve - right ventricle - pulmonic valve - pulmonic artery
The flow of oxygenated blood
Pulmonic veins - left atrium - bicuspid valve - the left ventricle - aortic valve - aorta
The base of the heart
The widest part of the heart (top)
Where is the apex
The tip of the heart (bottom)
Artery and vein difference in pressure.
Artery = High pressure. Vein = low pressure
The function of the heart
To pump nutrients, oxygen, and other materials to tissue, and to dispose of waste.
The best place to put your hands when performing CPR? Why?
Between the 5th intercostal space of the ribs, because the apex is closer to the palm.
The difference between an anatomical description and a functional description.
An anatomical description contains scientific language such as the atrium and ventricle. The language of the functional description will be less formal (left and right).
Where is the heart positioned?
Between the 3rd and 6th/7th rib
The atrioventricular valve is located between the ___ and the ________.
Atrium, ventricle
The pulmonic valve is located between the _____ _______ and the ________ _______.
The right ventricle, pulmonic artery.
the aortic valve is located between the ____ ______ and the _____.
The left ventricle, aorta
Name the two semilunar valves
The aortic valve, pulmonic valve.
