cardiovascular system Flashcards
Deoxygenated blood process
Comes from inferior/superior venca cava –> first chamber/right atrium –> second chamber/right ventricle –> pulmonary artery –> lungs
Oxygenated blood process
lungs–> come back to heart through pulmonary veins –> left atrium –> left ventricle –> new oxygenated blood pumped back out to the whole body through aorta
Ticuspid valve
separates atria and ventricles
Pulmonary valve
separates pulmonary artery with left ventricle
Biscuspid valve
separates left atrium and left ventricle
aortic valve separates
aorta and left ventricle
why are valves important
to prevent back flow and to keep presssure levels in sync
Interventricular septum sparates two ___
ventricles
which ventricle has a lot more muscle since its pumping the blood to all places
left ventricle
how to read heart rate through ECG
Count the squares of interval = x
300/x = beats per minute
Tachycardia #?
fast heart rate
> 100 bpm
Bradycardia #?
slow heart rate
< 60 bpm
normal heart rate
60-100 bpm
Arrythmia
problem with rate/rhythm of heart beat (tachycardia, bradycardia)
bundle of His
bundle of cardiac muscle fibers conducting electical impulses that regulate the heartbeat
diastolic blood pressure
bottom number of blood pressure
normal diastolic blood pressure
> 80
systolic blood pressure
top number of bp
normal systolic pressure
120
what number of bp means you have high blood pressure
reading of 140 bp or more
purkinje fibers
network of fibers receiving signals
endocarditis and mycarditis
inflmattion of the heart
endocarditis and mycarditis
causes
symptoms
treatment options
virus, bacterial/fungal infection, recent surgery
chest pain, fatigue, shortness of breath
antibiotics, medication, pacemaker implantation
Peripheral Artery disease
cuases
symptoms
treatment
limb trauma, smoking, obesity, high bp
leg and arm pain, extreme skin color change, hair loss on arms and legs
medication, lifestyle changes
