cardiovascular syste Flashcards
Superior vena cava
return deoxygenated blood to the heart
aorta
carries blood from left ventricle to the body
pulmonary artery
takes deoxygenated blood from the right ventricle to the lungs
pulmonary (semilunar) valve
prevent backflow of blood
Pulmonary veins
carries oxygenated blood from lungs to right atrium
Left ventricle
thicker muscular wall to produce a higher pressure to push oxygenated blood around the body rapidly
Septum
wall dividing oxygenated and deoxygenated blood
Right ventricle
thinner muscular wall compared to left ventricle as less pressure is produced on contraction. Prevents flow of blood into left ventricle after it contracts
Right atrium
contracts and pumps doexygenated blood
