Cardiology: Inherited/Congenital cardiac conditions Flashcards
1
Q
What is hypertrophic obstructive cardiomyopathy?
A
An autosomal dominant primary cardiomyopathy which is usually due to a mutation in the gene encoding beta myosin heavy chains.
It is a common cause of sudden cardiac death. An implantable cardioverter defibrilator can be put in to reduce the incidence of sudden cardiac death.

Q
What is the difference in ejection fractions in dilated and hypertrophic cardiomyopathy?
A
Normal in hypertrophic
Reduced in dilated
3
Q
What is wolff parkinson white syndrome?
A
Congenial condition where there is an accessory conduictive pathway. It typically causes episodes of supraventricular tachycardia and can cause sunnder cardiac death
