Cardiology Flashcards
Use bell to listen to what?
Low tones such as the extra heart sounds (S3 or S4) Mitral stenosis
Use Diaphragm of stethoscope to listen to what?
Mid- to high-pitched tones such as lung sounds
Mitral regurgitation
Aortic stenosis
Systolic Murmurs
MR. ASS
Mitral regurgitation/aortic stenosis = systolic
Diastolic Murmur
MS. ARD
Mitral stenosis/aortic regurgitation = diastolic
Mitral Regurgitation
systolic murmur
Listen apex
Loud blowing and high-pitched murmur
Aortic Stenosis
systolic murmur
second ICS
harsh and noisy murmur
Mitral Stenosis
diastolic murmur
Heard best at the apex
opening snap
Aortic Regurgitation
diastolic murmur
heard at the second ICS
High-pitched blowing murmur
Grade I murmur
very soft murmur heard only under optimal conditions
Grade 2 murmur
mild to moderately loud murmur.
Grade 3 murmur
Loud murmur that is easily heard once the stethoscope is placed on the chest.
Grade 4 murmur
A louder murmur. First time that a thrill is present. A thrill is like a “palpable murmur.”
