Observation
breathing rate obese/malnurished hands mouth-blue tongye colour, pale, lower Bp, anaemic shape of chest abdomen- gas, stopping diaphragm from descending
palpation
palpate just below the rib cage
movement or distension
response to touch
body temperature
Positions of ease
high lying
standing
forwardlean
forward lean sitting
Why are some positions better?
encourage relaxation of upper chest and shoulders
allows movement of lower chest and abdomen
decreased overuse of accessory muscles
allow the abdominal contents to raise the anterior part of the diaphragm to facilitate contraction
What is the downward spiral?
fear of exercise avoidance deconditioning inactivity loss of confidence
