Cardiac PA Flashcards
fxn of pulmonary artery
carries deoxygenated blood from right ventricle into the lungs
what angle of finger and nail would be considered clubbing
more than 180 degrees
interventions to do in response to chest pain
- remain with pt
- raise to semi-fowler
- notify RRT
- ensure IV access for emergency meds
- place on continuous ECG
- notify provider
S1 sound
AV valves closing
tricuspid & mitral valves
systole as ventricles start to pump
S2 sound
semilunar valves closing
aortic & pulmonic valves
diastole as ventricles relax
when is S3 sound heard
after S2 sound
S3 sound indication
CHF, PE, cardiomyopathy
could be normal in athletes, adolescents, or pregnant pts
when is S4 sound heard
after S1 sound
S4 sound indication
hypertension
coronary artery disease
often accompanies MI
lift pulse
fingers palpating lifts up from forced movement;
sign of enlarged heart such as aortic stenosis or hypertension
heave pulse
fingers feel rolling sensation upon palpation;
sign of enlarged heart; if right ventricle can indicate right ventricular hypertrophy
thrill pulse
4 finger palpation can feel turbulent blood flow;
abnormal blood flow such as murmur or septal defect
a pulse deficit could indicate what
pulse deficit is the difference between apical and peripheral pulse; could indicate cardiac dysrhythmia
a bruit over the carotid artery could indicate what
artery stenosis or plaque formation
