What is cardiac arrest?
A
The cessation of heart beat

What are the causes?
A
Lethal side effect of some dialysis problems.
Electrolyte imbalances, severe hypotension, underlying cardiac disease/myocardial infarction, cardiac tamponade, air embolism, hemolysis, large blood loss, anaphylactic reaction

What are the symptoms?
A
Absence of pulse, lack of respirations, patient is unresponsive

What is the intervention?
A
Establish unresponsiveness, call for help, initiate CPR, return blood if possible, and maintain patency of needles or CVC ports with normal saline

How can you prevent it?
A
Close monitoring of patient on dialysis
