Angina
insufficient coronary blood flow, resulting in a decreased oxygen supply when there is increased myocardial demand for oxygen in response to physical exertion or emotional stress. In other words, the need for oxygen exceeds the supply
Stable angina
predictable and consistent pain that occurs on exertion and is relieved by rest and/or nitroglycerin.
Unstable angina
(also called preinfarction angina or crescendo angina): symptoms increase in frequency and severity; may not be relieved with rest or nitroglycerin.
Acute coronary syndrome (or acute myocardial infraction)
Emergent situation characterized by an acute onset of myocardial ischemia that results in myocardial death.
MONA
MONA stands for morphine, oxygen, nitroglycerin and aspirin. Acronym used to help medical professionals remember the initial treatment for acute coronary syndrome
Creatine Kinase
Myocardial cells that become necrotic from prolonged ischemia or trauma release specific enzymes. CK MM: muscles. CK MB: heart muscle. CK BB: brain. THe increase within few hours and it peaks at 24hr after infarct.
V1 placement
fourth intercostal space, right sternal border
