cardiac Flashcards
valves on the ———– side of the heart are more commonly affected due to exposure to higher pressures
left side of the heart
stenosis is
narrow opening permitting less blood flow forward
insufficiency is
improper closing of valve causing re-gurge
grade 1 murmur
very faint
grade 2 murmur
soft but easily heard
grade three murmur
moderately loud
grade 4 murmur
loud and possibly a thrill
grade 5 murmur
very loud, heard with stethoscope barely on chest, + thrill
grade 6 murmur
may be heard with stethoscope off chest, + thrill
mitral regurg:
occurs during..
occurs during ventricular systole as blood is ejected forward.
mitral regurg
results in
Left atrium volume and pressure increase resulting in increased pulmonary vascular pressure and R sided heart failure
mitral regurg effect on LV
LV hypertrophy and end diastolic volume increase, CO decreases.
causes of mitral regurg
Rheumatic fever, infective endocarditis, MVP, ruptured cordae tendinae (causing flash pulmonary edema) hypertrophic cardiomyopathy, SLE
mitral regurg exam
hyperdynamic apical pulse, holosystolic murmur loudest at apex, radiating to axilla
mitral regurg treatment
diuretics, dig, afterload reduction, - MV repair or replacement
