Capter 6 Flashcards
Why is sleep important when it comes to learning?
- During sleep the new dendritic spines pop out and grow larger.
- The mind rehearses the information.
- electric signals that arise while rehearsing during sleep explain why dendritic splines and links grow so rapidly.
- neurons move from hyppocampus to cerebral cortex
- clear hyppocampus
- build new synaptic connections
How are dendritic spines like lie detectors?
Because they grow when you are really focusing.
So they can tell you if you are not focusing :)
What happens to a synapse when you practice a new idea?
When you practice a new idea the synapsis involved become stronger.
Why is it good to space out your learning?
Because there is more time to grow dendritic spines and the synaptic connections.
What is a good timing to do ACTIVE RECALL, to store definetly things in long term memory?
To study new informations I will do this over days.
- 1 new things
- 2,3 rehearse
- 4 pause
- 5 rehearse
- 6 pause
- 7 rehearse
What one thing will you do differently after reading this chapter?
To study new informations I will do this over days.
- 1 new things
- 2,3 rehearse
- 4 pause
- 5 rehearse
- 6 pause
- 7 rehearse
What happens when you don’t practice active recall?
The synaptic janitor (cleaner) cleans away the new dendritic spines.
