Capter 4 Flashcards
What is a synapse ?
The AXON of a neuron can connect to the DENDRITIC SPLINE of other neurons.
Between AXON and DENDRITIC SPLINE there are gaps. A synapse is a link between them where a spark can occur and a link can create.
“Neurons that fire together they wire together!!”
The ______________ that neurons send to other neurons form your ______________.
The SIGNALS that neurons send to other neurons form your SYNAPSIS.
From memory, draw a picture of a neuron. Label the key parts. Try to do this first without looking back at the picture. Active recall instead of just looking at the answer. That’s what helps the new set of brain-links to grow!
AXON, NUCLEUS, DENDRITES, DENDRITIC SPINES.
Does an axon shock a dendritic spine?
Or does a dendritic spine shock an axon?
In other words, does the signal go from the axon to the dendritic spine?
Or the other way around?
The Axon shock the dendritic spline.
What is a metaphor?
What do you do when a metaphor breaks down and doesn’t work anymore?
A comparison between two things.
You use it to concept I’m learning with something I already know.
I use it to EXPLAIN a concept in more simple terms.
When it doesn’t work anymore I drop it and make a new one.
Why did scientists think that your brain was made of one single neuron network instead of thinking that there were many smaller neurons that sent signals to each other across tiny gaps?
Because they didn’t have instruments to see it.
What is a “set of brain-links”?
Neurons are wired together.
Neurons that are a part of a team by frequent sparks across synapsis.
Learning something new creates new brain links.
When you learn something new, you form a new set of ______________ in your brain. (Several different words could be used here.)”
